Adultery, intention to live, very bad or dishonorable behavior, committing a crime and leading a dishonorable life, abandonment, and mental illness are shown as specific grounds for divorce.
As the general reasons for divorce, the deterioration of the marital union, the divorce by agreement of the spouses, and the fact that the spouses do not come together for three years after a divorce rejection is considered de facto separation.

Pursuant to Article 161 of the Turkish Civil Code, if one of the spouses commits adultery, the other spouse can file for divorce. In order for adultery to occur, the parties must have a relationship with a person other than the spouse during the marriage union.
If a married woman has sexual intercourse with a man other than her husband, and a married man with a woman other than his wife, it is considered adultery. Having sexual intercourse with people of the same sex is not considered adultery.
If the husband or wife does not file a divorce case within six months from the date of learning the reason for the divorce, and at the most within five years from the day of adultery, he loses the right to file a divorce case regarding this reason.
In the case of one-time adultery, the start of the period is counted as the day of action. If adultery is committed continuously, the beginning of the period will be the date the adultery ends. The forgiving party does not have the right to sue. It is possible for the spouse to notify the pardon verbally or in writing.
